Something truly special

After months of anticipation, the call to serve in East Timor finally became reality on September 11th, 2025. I arrived safely in East Timor, grateful to God for His protection. I was warmly welcomed by Sisters Elijane and Gita, whose kindness and gentle presence immediately put me at ease. Their embrace felt like a homecoming, and their joyful welcome stirred something deep within me. In that moment, I knew this journey was going to be something truly special.
The drive to our destination, Besilau, was not short and magical. As we climbed the winding mountain roads, I was captivated by the breathtaking scenery on either side. Lush greenery blanketed the hills, and a gentle mist hung in the air, adding a touch of mystery to the landscape. The zigzagging road seemed to dance with the outlines of nature itself.
East Timor is a place where one truly feels the embrace of the earth, its beauty, its peace, its silence. People are simple and have great respect towards us which stimulates the heart to do something for them. I hope that this experience of mission will surely be something important for my life’s journey.
On the 29th of September, the parish community of Bislau joyfully celebrated the Feast of the Archangels, the patron saints of the region. The celebration was preceded by a spiritually enriching triduum, during which various communities gathered each evening in their respective shrines for prayer and reflection. The organizing committee played a vital role in coordinating a series of vibrant activities that brought together people of all ages. These included sports competitions between communities and schools, poem recitations in honor of the Archangels, the proclamation of the Word of God, and both cultural and modern dance contests. Each event was marked by enthusiastic participation and a strong sense of team spirit, reflecting the unity and devotion of the community.
The feast reached its high point with a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Domingu. A particularly touching moment was the reception of First Holy Communion by the children, which added a special significance to the day and deepened the spiritual joy of the occasion. During his homily, Fr. Domingu highlighted the importance of the Archangels in the life of the Church and their role as messengers and protectors of God’s people. The celebration concluded with a prize distribution ceremony recognizing the winners of the various competitions held during the triduum. Overall, the feast was a beautiful expression of communitarian participation, blending faith, richness in culture, and fellowship into a memorable and uplifting event for all. (sister Venisha).
