Our Lady of Apparition
We have been invited by the Bishop Mons. Cristiano Jacob Krapf, of the Diocese of Jequié, to open a community in the city of Maracás, located in the South-East of Bahia, 360 K. M. from Salvador. Maracás, located at 971 meters above sea level, is inhabited by mostly poor people, about 35,000 and is a land of coffee, minerals and flowers with cold climate, which is however made very warm by welcoming and open people.
On 17 July 1985 we started the community with the title of Nossa Senhora Aparecida, with the mandate of parish collaboration. In addition to the small urban communities, which are 12, we try to reach out to the other 38 rural communities to bring them the comfort of closeness and to receive in return examples of great faith and Christian commitment. Our service is expressed in various ways, depending on the needs like evangelization: Liturgical animation, Catechesis, Pastoral care of children, Youth and vocational ministry, Training of community coordinators, groups and movements, Basic Community, Pastoral service in the Rural Areas, retreat programme and the meetings and courses for the Third Age.
