Our Lady of Joy
The Tumbaco valley is located 40 minutes from the capital Quito and is populated by about 38,498 inhabitants. The word "Tumbaco" seems to come from the last surname of the "cacichi", that is the head of the indigenous tribe of the place. Here there are various parishes, including one dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, located in the center of the village.
On 11 October 2015, with a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by the auxiliary Bishop of Quito, Monsignor Danilo Echeverría, the Community began its presence.
The Sisters are engaged in the formation of the laity of various groups. In the morning they dedicate themselves to teaching religion in school and catechesis, as well as being extraordinary ministers of communion. In the evening, two Sisters give their missionary collaboration in two "chapels" where for lack of time and for the distance the priests often fail to arrive and the third takes care of the liturgical animation in the parish.
In the parish there are fifteen groups of lay people, each with its own peculiarity and identity. The laity who are part of it participate willingly and commit themselves to ensure that all the realities in which they are present and work, both in the family and in the workplace, are imbued with the spirit of the Gospel. In short, our apostolate is meant to be the fruit of the gift that the Lord has given to our Foundress, M. Maria Oliva, who has sought above all to respond to Love with love.
