Mary Mother of God and the Virgin is believed by many to be the greatest of all Christians and all the saints. Before The angel Gabriel showed up on her doorstep, she lived an ordinary life occupied with domestic tasks and attending the temple on the Sabbath. Mary was visited by the archangel Gabriel, who announced to her that she was highly favoured among all women and she would become the Mother of Jesus, by the Holy Spirit. With this announcing Mary becomes the centre of God`s saving plan in the Salvation history as the first Christian. Today as we celebrate Her Birthday and the liturgy of the day especially the Gospel passage strikes me to pen down a few lines about me and my vocation.
I am Deepika Lakra, and I am 20 years old, coming from a village of Jharkhand, in India. As a young girl studying in 4th standard, a desire bloomed in my heart to become a religious sister. Since my studies were done in the convent schools, I used to observe the sisters praying, smiling and doing charitable works, especially to the poor, these good services of the sisters helped me to resonate in my soul strongly to be religious and to discern my vocation.
Joining the Congregation of the Daughters of the Church, in the year 2018, and spending my life for fast four years, listening to different classes, participating in the life of prayer, sacraments, Eucharistic Adoration, monthly recollections, Lectio Divina, animation of the Liturgy etc.... I began to learn more deeply the call of God to be a religious, and the first thing that strike me from the Constitution’s preface the sentence that speaks of how the people described our primitive sisters: Who are praying, smiling, and poor sisters. These characteristics of religious family inspired me to continue my life in this congregation in spite of moments of ups and downs that came across on my life journey.
As a teenager I was reading and listening to the Word of God without understanding its meaning. Now being in the Religious family of the Daughters of the Church since for four years as a candidate, I began to read and meditate on the Scripture passages with the guidance of the Sisters, and realised that how meaningful and valuable is the Word of God. The Gospel of St. John “You did not choose me, but I chose you” (John. 15: 16) is the word that keeps me to take a strong decision to continue my religious life. The life and the writings of our mother foundress, learning the life of Olga ,Magdalene and Emma the servants of God who have given me boost to strengthen my spirituality and love for the Congregation and its Charism: “to Know, to love and witness the Church, to make her known and loved. To pray to work and to suffer for her in imitation of Jesus who loved the Church”. These are the ways God has helped me to realize that throughout my discernment He continued to reveal to me the true desires of my heart and made me realize it is a gift from God, an invitation into a deeper relationship with Him and to remain in His love. As I wish to continue my formation in this religious family I pray to the Lord to make me an instrument of God’s love for the glorification of the Lord and the sanctification of the world.
