Formative Gathering of the young sisters

Formative Gathering of the young sisters

Vie, 18 May 18 Hijas de la Iglesia Formación

Around 20 young Sisters of the Indian Delegation were gathered at Shanthidhara, Valavayal, Kerala from 18th to 20th for the formative programme. The theme of the gathering was based on the Gospel of John 15:19, one of the most difficult challenges of our times to live committed life - to be in the world but not of the world. On 18th, Fr. Edward Thomas, a Salesian priest belonging to the province of Karnataka facilitated the Sisters to follow the methodology of Jesus in order to be effective missionaries. Being closer to God one can become effective like Jesus in the mission and being closer to the people with the attitude of Jesus, one can bring about changes. On the second day Mar Jose Porunnedom, the bishop of Manathavady reminded the Sisters as Daughters of the Church, the primary duty is to form Christ in everyone.  For that, one needs to become familiar with the language of today, update oneself with the laws including new laws, read and reflect the current teachings of the church in order to empower the laity and to be effective in our mission.  The mission of sanctifying, teaching and leading are the roles expected of a religious sister today, therefore one has to sanctify oneself, learn first and lead being with the people.  On the third day, Sr. Gracy EF gave an introduction to the writings of the Foundress Maria Oliva Bonaldo, opening up the great treasury of spirituality hidden in those words.  The Mother General with her circular on the occasion of the solemnity of the Pentecost, reached to us with the invitation to be filled with the Spirit of the Lord in order to desire and do what He wants. Thus the formative gathering was a moment to grow in awareness about the need to expand the horizons of our hearts, to be amazed by the life which presents itself each day with newness.

God expects something from us, God wants something from us. God hopes in us. God comes to break down all our fences. He comes to open the doors of our lives, our dreams, our ways of seeing things. God comes to break open everything that keeps us closed in. He is encouraging us to dream. He wants to make us see that, with us, the world can be different. For the fact is, unless we offer the best of ourselves, the world will never be different.
