St. Mary’s English Medium School Celebrated the World Environment day on 5th June 2018 with the Institute of Krishi Vigyan Kendra , Barpeta. The theme of the year 2018 was “Beat Plastic pollution” .In the presence of Dr. Arup Kumar Deka, the Senior Scientist and Head of the department and Dr. Gunadhya Kumar Upamanya, the Subject matter specialist, the Headmistress, teachers and around 150 students of the school gathered together at 12.00pm. The program began with the welcoming of the chief guests by Mrs. Jahnavi the representative of the teachers. Extempore speech competition was held for the students of the school in two sessions. The junior students of the school were given the topic ‘Deforestation and its effect on environment’ and senior students ‘Plastic pollution and its consequence’. Fifteen students from the junior session and ten students form senior session participated in the competition. The winners were given good books on the topic as prizes by the Institute. Certificates and one each plant was given for all the participants. Dr. Arup Kumar Deka gave an inspiring speech and spoke about the importance of encouraging awareness and propagating the need for protecting the environment. After that Dr. Gunadhya Kumar Upamanya gave a power point presentation on the theme. Headmistress, Sr. Mini thanked the chief guests, the participants and all those who were present. The program was concluded by planting few plants in the school premises. The institute has gifted almost 150 plants for the school. On this special day together let us ensure that our future generation can live in a clean and green planet in harmony with nature.
