25th death anniversary of Sr. Silvana Termignone (1993-2018)
The Sisters from India would like to remember and share their experience of living with Sr. Silvana who brought the Charism of Daughters of the Church to India.
Today while evoking the sweet memories of Sr. Silvana, with grateful heart I wish to confess that she occupies a unique place in my heart even after 25 years of her departure to the heavenly abode. I got the privilege to meet her when I was about five years old. I came to know more about her through my aunt who was then making her formative journey under her in the Congregation of the Daughters of the Church. A foreign Sister, who showed deep respect for Indian culture and religion, impressed, inspired and drew me to the same religious family. Two years of my life with her helped me to learn further lessons from her and I consider it as a blessing from the Lord.
She who liked to be called as Amma (mother), in fact manifested qualities proper to a true mother. Instead of pampering us she was concerned of making us refined women and sisters capable of facing the challenges in life with strong faith and daring spirit. When religious in India slowly and hesitantly welcomed the inculturation process, like a visionary she took heroic steps to form all of us in this aspect. Her profound prayer life, austere and authentic living, hard working nature, concern for the lepers and marginalized, capacity to endure pain and loneliness without making it known to others inspired me and helped me to have a right approach towards religious life. In a special way I am indebted to her for her understanding and assistance in time of genuine need. In those moments without any communication she read my mind and helped me to overcome the struggles I was undergoing. Faith, fidelity and fervour: the three words she left as a testament on the day of our novitiate entry, which was also the vigil of her permanent departure to Italy, still echo in my ears.
